This workshop, organised by Department for International Trade and Scottish Development International, is the first one in the series of workshops planned later this year during which different aspects of offshore wind projects will be covered. This one will cover geotechnical modelling of a seabed and unexploded ordnance (UXO).
Potential areas for offshore wind developments are determined by maritime spatial plan. Such plan is currently being proceeded in Poland. Obviously all fields will require in depth geotechnical investigation and seabed modelling as well as scanning for any explosive remnants of war. Contractors understand that the key to a successful project lies in increasing efficiency and ensuring accuracy, while keeping costs down.
Different techniques are being used nowadays to enhance detection accuracy.
Digital geophysics for UXO surveys have been documented to drastically reduce the number of unidentified UXO. Digital surveys allow the area to be analysed for depth, size, and the nature of the target, helping to distinguish UXO from harmless scrap metal or magnetic components in the soil.
Digital geophysical surveys can often represent huge amounts of data. This workshop will demonstrate only a flavour of available data handling tools and software being utilised in geotechnical modelling, as well as detecting and identifying objects in the seabed.
UK companies excel at geotechnical studies and are able to collaborate with overseas markets in order to comprehensively supplement offer of the incumbent firms and institutes in the field.
